Important Security Notice
Before you continue, please read carefully:
- Set up your Ledger yourself
- Never use a device that is already initialized
- Ledger Support™ will never request your recovery phrase
- Do not trust emails, pop-ups, ads, or phone calls claiming to be Ledger
- Always start from Ledger.com
⚠️ If your box contains a pre-written recovery phrase, stop immediately.
Step 1: Power On Your Ledger Device
- Connect your Ledger device to your computer or smartphone
- Turn the device on
- Choose “Set up as new device” on the Ledger screen
This ensures your wallet is created securely from scratch.
Step 2: Install Ledger Live
Ledger Live is the official application for managing your Ledger wallet.
- Visit Ledger.com
- Download Ledger Live for your operating system
- Install and open the app

- Choose your Ledger model
Ledger Live will guide you through the setup process.
Step 3: Set a PIN Code
You will be asked to create a PIN:
- Choose a 4–8 digit PIN
- Confirm it on your Ledger device
The PIN prevents unauthorized physical access.
🔒 After several incorrect attempts, the device will reset automatically.
Step 4: Secure Your Recovery Phrase
Your Ledger will generate a 24-word recovery phrase.
How to back it up:
- Write down each word on paper
- Maintain the correct order
- Verify spelling carefully
- Confirm the phrase on the device
Why this is critical:
- The recovery phrase is the only backup of your wallet
- Anyone with this phrase can access your funds
- Ledger cannot retrieve it for you
🚫 Do not photograph it
🚫 Do not store it digitally
🚫 Do not share it
Store it offline in a secure location.
Step 5: Device Authenticity Check
Ledger Live will now verify your device:
- Connect your Ledger
- Follow on-screen instructions
- Confirm authenticity on the device
This ensures your Ledger is genuine and untampered.
Step 6: Install Asset Apps
Each cryptocurrency requires an app on your Ledger device.
- Open My Ledger in Ledger Live
- Allow access on your device
- Install the apps you need (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.)
Removing apps does not affect your assets.
Step 7: Create Accounts
To manage your crypto:
- Go to Accounts
- Click Add account
- Select the cryptocurrency
- Open the corresponding app on your Ledger
- Let Ledger Live synchronize the account
Repeat for all supported assets you wish to manage.
Step 8: Receive Cryptocurrency
- Choose an account
- Click Receive
- Verify the address on your Ledger screen
- Copy and share the verified address
✅ Always confirm addresses on the physical device.
Step 9: Send Cryptocurrency
- Select an account
- Click Send
- Enter the recipient address and amount

- Confirm the transaction on your Ledger device
Transactions cannot be completed without device confirmation.
If Your Ledger Is Lost
Your crypto is not stored on the device.
You can restore access using:
- A new Ledger hardware wallet
- Your original 24-word recovery phrase
❌ If the recovery phrase is lost, funds are permanently unrecoverable.
Best Security Practices
- Keep your recovery phrase offline at all times
- Verify all transaction details on your Ledger screen
